PROJECT DESCRIPTION

GEOPOLITICAL ADVANTAGE

The project is located within a strategically important transport corridor that connects the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and the United States.
This geographic position provides unique opportunities for the development of a multifunctional aviation cluster, including:

  • Cargo and Logistics Hub – operation and handling of transit cargo
  • Fuel Hub – technical stopover for refueling international airlines
  • Aviation Technical Hub – aircraft maintenance and repair (MRO)
  • Aerotropolis – development of  commercial and industrial airport infrastructure, including business            centers, hotels, coworking spaces, duty-free boutiques,  shopping and entertainment centers

Economic Impact

The project is aimed to increase the volume of transit traffic cargo through the “Khorgos – Eastern Gate” hub and to establish a multimodal logistics center by leveraging existing infrastructure potential

Airport Infrastructure

  • Runway (RWY): 4,650 × 75 m, CAT III
  • Aircraft Stands: 10 stands for wide-body aircraft (Class F), 7 stands for Class D aircraft, and 3 stands for helicopters
  • Taxiways: 7 taxiways and 1 main taxiway
  • Facilities: ATC Tower, Airfield ground lighting system (AGL), Instrument Landing System (ILS), and Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS)

GEOSTRATEGIC LOCATION

The project is being implemented within the “Khorgos – Eastern Gate” Special Economic Zone (SEZ), covering 840 hectares on the border with China, with the goal of establishing a regional air cargo hub.

  • October – Memorandum of  understanding signed with the management of the SEZ “Khorgos – Eastern Gate”

  • March –  Memorandum of understanding signed with the Akimat of Zhetysu Region
  • March – Kazakh-German joint venture “SKYHANSA” LLP was registered
  • May – Land lease agreement  signed
  • June-October – Pre ingenering design works done 
  • September – Frame agreement between the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan and SKYHANSA signed with participation of German Chancellor and President of Kazakhstan  
  • October-November –  Concept of the General Plan  developed
  • November –  Feasibility study, financial model, and business plan  completed
  • December – Introductory course on JET A1 aviation fuel and JIG standards conducted for the executives of Kazakhstan airports,  Civil Aviation Committee, and  Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan

  • February –  General Plan concept  approved by all relevant government bodies and authorities
  • June – Expected signing time for the Investment Agreement with the Government of Kazakhstan 
  • July – Expected  SEZ status granting time to the land plot  
  • July –Land lease agreement extention for 25 years 
  • SeptemberOctober – International tender for  EPC contractors will be announced
  • NovemberDecember – Start for the construction of  Cargo and passenger airport
